Edge AI partnerships boost face biometrics in retail and smart city solutions

Two recent partnerships in the world of edge computing, one each involving Vsblty and CyberLink, will allow clients from various sectors to easily integrate sophisticated AI face biometrics into their existing video management solutions used in smart city and retail monitoring.

Vsblty Group and Ability partner to produce edge AI camera

Vsblty Group announced that it has partnered with Taiwan-based Ability Enterprise Co., Ltd. to produce a high-resolution camera with integrated self-contained inference logic capable of supporting facial recognition.

The edge AI-powered Ability camera can be deployed in smart city and retail scenarios and allows for simultaneous Intel algorithms to be integrated and run. Smart city clients can run biometric algorithms, license plate recognition, gait analysis, parking enforcement, vehicle counts, and detect mask compliance. Other uses include identification of strangers, firearms, car accidents, and fires.

Ability cameras are planned to be deployed in Central and South American markets in 2021. As part of this roll-out, the devices will be integrated into a media network covering some 10,000 Mexican retail stores. Vsblty reached an agreement with Mexico-based partners last year to provide technology for biometric security to up to 50,000 Modelorama stores and independent bodegas.

In addition to this, the new devices will be integrated into Mexico City’s smart city initiative run by RadarApp. The Mexico City project includes biometric security features enabled by Vsblty.

Clients will be able to enhance their surveillance systems to gain insights on audience demographics, people count, density, and dwell time, as well as inventory management and planogram compliance. Ability will also provide interactive insights and analytics using VisionCaptor and DataCaptor. The cameras use Vsblty’s Vector software and are built on Myriad X and OpenVINO, Intel’s pre-trained machine learning model optimization toolkit. The cameras also allow clients to integrate other Intel algorithms from the Open Zoo library.

CyberLink brings edge AI face biometrics to Nx Meta clients

CyberLink and Network Optix announced an edge AI partnership to integrate FaceMe Security into Nx Meta, a video management platform for IP Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) solutions. The high-level integration will enhance conventional video management systems used in smart city projects, industrial facilities, retail, and foodservice through edge AI-driven face biometrics.

Powered by deep learning algorithms, FaceMe Security will bring powerful face recognition software and flexible edge computing architecture to enhance all Powered by Nx VSaaS products, including Nx Witness. This latest partnership follows FaceMe’s recent 99.7 percent accuracy rating in NIST Facial Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT).

Nx Meta clients can now use the free and customizable VSaaS platform to tailor facial recognition video management solutions to their unique needs. This allows them to harness FaceMe Security’s biometric accuracy and computing power for identity-focused real-time event and personnel management. The versatility of this integrated solution can help clients to build and configure intelligent video management for traffic control, data centers, security as a service, health & safety, as well as retail analytics among many other use cases.
